Lauren Minear is a Psychotherapist in New York City.

Lauren is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) who is also a 200-hour Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) with the Yoga Alliance. Lauren specializes in the treatment of eating problems, body image suffering, and other struggles with embodiment.

Lauren has provided psychotherapy, yoga, mindfulness, and other movement-based interventions for eating disorders, anxiety, severe mental illness, chronic pain, and trauma at various levels of care in both community-based and private settings. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History from Yale University and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from New York University. She has advanced clinical training in Feminist Relational Psychotherapy from the Women’s Therapy Centre Institute in New York. Lauren also has specialized training in Mindfulness, Vinyasa Yoga, Rasa Restorative Yoga, Postural Alignment Therapy (PAS), and Movement for Trauma (MFT). She draws from that training to offer movement-based and other body-based interventions to her clients when and if clinically appropriate.

Practice Philosophy

I believe that humans are driven by their need for connection to others, and that we become who we are in the context of our social environment. I also believe that the body holds innate wisdom that cannot always be translated into words.

I believe in the power of the therapeutic relationship to develop your understanding of yourself, heal your relationship with your body, and free you from behaviors that trouble you. I also believe in the unique power of mindful movement to help you integrate overwhelming experiences and develop resilience to stress. My hope for you is that through our work together, you can access an embodied sense of joy, connection, and agency in your life.

I strive to provide a flexible, tailored treatment experience to my clients. While at times, for some, it may be helpful to visit your past experiences and relationships for insight into your present reality; working in the past does not always feels safe. I find it critical to honor that truth by offering mindfulness-based tools for self-regulation that empower my clients to feel more at home in their bodies.
